About Lilbourne Windfarm
We are proposing a wind farm of eight wind turbines on a site located to the East of the M1 motorway, on the otherside of the M1 from Lilbourne Village, South of the planned A14/M1 interchange (see our Interactive Map). This location adjacent to the M1 motorway is intended to minimise any potential noise impact to an inaudible level. Land close to a motorway does not generally lend itself to recreational purposes, mainly due to the continuously high level of ambient background 'white noise' along with the disturbing proximity of fast moving traffic. Consequently the utility of such land is much reduced for bird watchers, ramblers and other recreational users.
In addition to the close proximity to the M1, the site lies well away from any designated landscape areas. Situated in the confines of the North West corner of the M1/A14 interchange it is intended to minimise any impacts on the Special Landscape Area (EN 1) located in the South West.
The immediate surrounding area is historically dominated by the radio masts on the western side of the M1. The major roads (M1, A14 and M6) converge to the North West of the site having a major influence on the area. The proposal to redevelop this interchange has been considered when selecting the locations of the wind turbines. These are significant structures and the potential environmental impact that they may have on the surrounding area will be detailed in an Environmental Statement in accordance with Environmental Impact Statement regulations.
